Vietnamese Helicopter Crashed with Seven Americans and Nine Vietnamese Onboard

CAMP H.M. SMITH, Hawaii - Joint Task Force-Full Accounting has learned from Vietnamese officials that seven Americans and nine Vietnamese were onboard a Vietnamese helicopter when it crashed in Quang Binh province in Vietnam.

Reportedly there are no survivors.

The Russian-made MI-17 helicopter carrying 16 crew and passengers crashed during a routine mission while preparing for a recovery operation involving unaccounted Americans lost during the Vietnam war. The Quang Binh province is located approximately 400 km. (250 miles) south of Hanoi.

American and Vietnamese officials are taking appropriate actions to recover and identify those aboard, and to notify next of kin.

Our condolences go to all the families of those lost in this tragic accident.

The crash is under investigation.
