LTC Rennie M. Cory Jr., was born in Fort Sill, Oklahoma on 18 October 1957. He was a graduate of Appalachian State University and was commissioned through ROTC as a Distinguished Military Graduate in 1980. His military education included the Infantry Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Combined Arms Staff Service School and the United States Army Command and General Staff College. He held a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice from Troy State University.

LTC Cory's awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters (OLCs), Army Commendation Medal with silver OLC, Joint Service Achievement Medal with OLC, Army Achievement Medal with two OLC, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Army Superior Unit Award. He is authorized to wear the Expert Infantryman's Badge, Ranger Tab, Special Forces Tab, Master Parachutist Badge, Pathfinder Badge, and Military Freefall Badge.
