LTC Rennie M. Cory Jr., was born in Fort Sill, Oklahoma on 18 October 1957. He was a graduate of Appalachian State University and was commissioned through ROTC as a Distinguished Military Graduate in 1980. His military education included the Infantry Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Combined Arms Staff Service School and the United States Army Command and General Staff College. He held a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice from Troy State University.
LTC Cory's early assignments include: Rifle Platoon Leader, Scout Platoon Leader, and Executive Officer with 2d Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Detachment Commander in 2d Battalion, 7th Special, Forces Group (Airborne). Rifle Company Commander with the 4th Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment. Operations Officer, School of the Americas, Fort Benning, Georgia. -Battalion and Brigade S-3, Ranger Training Brigade, Fort Benning, Georgia. Battalion Executive Officer of the Joint Security Force, Joint Security Area, Panmunjom, Korea. Deputy Chief EDRE, XVIII Airborne Corps. Plans Officer, J3/5 Executive Officer and Chief of Plans for Joint Task Force Six, Fort Bliss, Texas. Commander of 2nd Battalion 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
LTC Cory's awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters (OLCs), Army Commendation Medal with silver OLC, Joint Service Achievement Medal with OLC, Army Achievement Medal with two OLC, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the Army Superior Unit Award. He is authorized to wear the Expert Infantryman's Badge, Ranger Tab, Special Forces Tab, Master Parachutist Badge, Pathfinder Badge, and Military Freefall Badge.
